NewsTomTom Release TomTom ONE version 2!!TomTom have announced the release of version 2 of their now famous TomTom ONE system. The unit comes in both Regional and European versions. The Regional version for the UK features street-level mapping for Great Britain. Garmin announces UK launch of ZumoComing this autumn to the UK is the Zumo satnav system - a satnav system designed for motorbikes. Of rugged construction, the Zumo is water and fuel proof, can be operated with gloves on and can link to a bluetooth phone and headset for making and receiving calls. Wireless capability allows the spoken instructions to be transmitted to the user's headset/helmet (available separately). [August 2006] Garmin Launch New C500 RangeNew from Garmin in Summer 2006 comes the C500 range. Building on the C300 range, the C500 range brings 3 new models to the market. The C510 is the entry-level system offering improved technology and increased security via the new GarminLock PIN protection system. The StreetPilot C530 can be linked to an optional FM traffic information receiver and the top-of-the-range StreetPilot C550 comes with all the same features as the C510 and C530 but with built-in traffic information receiver, MP3 player and Bluetooth compatibility for connecting a mobile phone inorder to make and receive hands-free calls. [July 2006] TomTom Launch new GO rangeTomTom have just launched the new TomTom GO range in the UK. The systems offer a new 4inch wide screen and added usability. The TomTom GO 510 offers street-level maps of the UK and major roads of Western Europe. The TomTom GO 710 offers the same as the 510 but has the added benefit of street-level mapping for Western Europe. The TomTom GO 910 is the flagship of the range offering street-level mapping for the UK, Western Europe, USA and Canada! The internal 20GB hard-drive offers storage space for maps and software, as well as MP3's and digital photographs. [1st May 2006] Decoys to Deter Sat Nav ThievesPolice in the West Midlands are using decoy vehicles with sat nav units left in them to target thieves. The vehicles are to be placed in West Bromwich, Tipton and Wednesbury in an attempt to catch thieves stealing sat nav units from parked vehicles. City Sat Nav Thefts up 2000%Thefts of sat nav systems from cars in Sheffield have increased by 2000% according to Police. Police repeatedly warned drivers not to leave satellite navigation units on display in cars. [13th March 2006] Tip - remove your satellite navigation system from the car when not in use. It is also advisable not to leave the windscreen mount in position - this could indicate to a thief that the satnav unit is in the glovebox or boot. Police are even advocating wiping the windscreen so the mark left by the suction cup is not left visible.
