Garmin has excelled itself in portable in-car navigation with the StreetPilot 2610. This capable system offers everything you would expect from a comprehensive GPS system — automatic route calculation and re-calculation, voice directions and a large colour screen — for much less than built-in systems available from car manufacturers. This system is currently selling for around £520 and represents good value for money.
The StreetPilot 2610 can be controlled by using either the touch-screen menu or a remote control. Entering and retrieving routes and other information has never been simpler. In common with other units it also offers turn-by-turn routing and voice instructions to ensure you are always kept on track to your destination. If you should happen to go off-track the system will automatically recalculate the most-efficient new route to get you to your destination taking into account your current "new" position.
The 2610 features a large, easy-to-read screen, built-in maps, and everything needed to download additional map detail and look up points of interest and addresses in seconds.
The unit comes with a USB connection to connect it to a PC so that the user can upload new maps and other information direct to the CompactFlash® memory card. Memory cards continue to fall in price and are available separately from most outlets.

The 2610 is powered using the external speaker with 12/24-volt adapter cable or A/C power adapter (both included in purchase).
