Garmin StreetPilot 2620

The Garmin Streetpilot 2620 is a plug-and-play satellite navigation system which can be used straight out of the box. Maps are stored on the internal hard-drive. There is no need to install maps or software before using the unit – simply plug in and go.

The unit includes a pre-programmed hard drive that stores all maps. Motorists can navigate to a specific address or access a database of more than five million POI (points of interest) -- including lodging, restaurants, gas stations, and local attractions. The intuitive, menu-driven touch-screen ensures that using the unit is simple and straightforward.

Like the 2610 this unit features a high-resolution colour touch-screen with voice prompted turn-by-turn navigation and a powerful microprocessor for fast route calculation and map redraw.

The system includes a unique wireless infrared remote control, which allows easy operation of the unit from a distance. The StreetPilot 2620 also offers WAAS-enabled support to ensure the highest degree of GPS accuracy.

A number of new software features have been included :

Enter a series of destinations, and the StreetPilot 2620 will calculate the optimum route to minimise the amount of travelling required. Ideal for businesses, sales people and delivery firms/couriers who need to make several different calls in a day. The time and money saved using this facility will make the system pay for itself in no time at all.

Users can specify areas and road segments to avoid. This is useful if you have prior knowledge of any roads that may have road works or other delays.

In common with other units it is possible to divert to Points of Interest en-route, such as petrol station, post offices, supermarkets, hotels etc.

This is a comprehensive, professional system with the key selling point being the multiple-destination optimisation facility.

This unit is not widely available in the UK. Consider the following systems:
