Garmin StreetPilot C550

New from Garmin comes the StreetPilot C550. Ready to use straight out of the box, all maps and software come pre-loaded.

The StreetPilot C550 has both an internal GPS receiver and battery. The new technology has improved the accuracy of the reception of satellite signals.

Battery life between charges is claimed to be 8 hours by Garmin allowing the unit to be transferred easily between vehicles. This is ideal for a family who want to share a comprehensive, sophisticated satnav system.

The C550 comes with an automotive grade, anti-glare TFT LCD screen. The colours are bright and clear and controlling the system using the user-intuitive menu is simple. Controlling the system is straightforward using the touch-screen intuitive menu system.

As with other systems in this price range the user can expect a large number of labour-saving features. The StreetPilot C550 can be used in conjunction with a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone (not included) to make and receive calls.

A unique feature of the StreetPilot C550 is the in-built GTM21 FM TMC traffic receiver which notifies the user of traffic delays, roadwork's etc if this information is available in the user's locality. Based on this information the C550 can automatically suggest alternative routes.

As you would expect, the unit provides both 2D and 3D mapping options, together with turn-by-turn voice instructions - the StreetPilot C550 will even speak street names which will make journeys even less stressful.

A comprehensive Points of Interest (POI) database is pre-installed and further POI's, school zones and safety camera databases can be added to the C550.

A new security feature of the Garmin StreetPilot C550 is the Garmin Lock - this requires the entry of a 4 figure PIN number to activate the unit. The unit can also be activated by taking it to a pre-determined location.

The unit comes with an SD card expansion slot. The system also plays MP3 files for music on the move!
