TomTom GO 700

The 700 comes from the "TomTom GO" series of satellite navigation systems. This is their top-of-the-range offering. The system can be used straight out of the box - crisp, clear voice instructions are given and both 2D and 3D maps are available.

The unit comes with a 2.5GB hard drive with the maps of Europe pre-loaded allowing the user to navigate cross-border. The system can be operated using either touch-screen controls or a remote control unit supplied with the system.

Navigating to locations is straightforward - search for destinations using town, road, address or even postcode (this is particularly usefull for locations where there may not be a house number or road name - such as rural locations).

The dynamic status bar shows useful information as you progress on your journey. This can show travelling time remaining, estimated time of arrival, current time, current speed, number of satellites in view and distance and type of next manoeuvre.

The screen colour can also be changed - night mode is very useful as it prevents glare from a bright screen:-

Safe driving is important and TomTom have incorporated this into the 700 with hands-free telephony via a Bluetooth phone (phone not included). The user can link their phone to the unit and use the system to receive calls and make calls to Points of Interest (eg. home, office, hotel).

Assisted Satellite Navigation provides continuous navigation when the signal from the satellites is temporarily weak or unavailable (for example - in tunnels, city centre skyscrapers, driving through dense forests).

The voice directions are clear and crisp. The user can choose from over 30 languages and 50 voices. The volume is linked to the speed of the car and will change accordingly to ensure the user can continue to receive directions.

The system comes with the latest maps and thousands of Points of Interest such as banks, post offices, hotels, airports etc. The user can also add their own favourite destinations as well. The GO 700 can calculate routes in a number of ways - quickest, shortest, avoiding toll roads and congestion charging areas.

Planning multiple stops is also possible - numerous waypoints can be entered prior to starting a trip allowing the user to navigate from location to location. This is ideal for people working in sales, delivery drivers or those who need to make more than one stop during a journey.
